The client
DOM Security is a recognized manufacturer of mechanical and electronic locking systems. Its portfolio includes patented mechanical cylinders, digital access control solutions, anti-panic hardware, and door closers. DOM technologies are deployed across a wide range of environments: from public buildings and residential complexes to hospitals, schools, hotels, museums, airports, and industrial sites.
Project background
In 2016, DOM decided to enter the small and medium size market, targeting businesses, organizations, and facilities where access rights are managed in-house. This segment called for a solution that was secure, cost-effective, and easy to use, without the overhead of enterprise systems. To cover that need, CoreWillSoft stepped in to design and develop the ENiQ app, a mobile ecosystem built on DOM’s existing platform and secured with end-to-end encrypted communication.

The challenge
CoreWillSoft faced three major challenges during the collaboration with DOM:
Create a mobile application intuitive for non-technical users to manage access in their premises.
Simplify the day-to-day administration and ongoing maintenance of electronic access devices and RFID credentials.
Certify the solution with VdS**, that serves as both a customer trust signal and competitive advantage for DOM.
The approach
User-centric design
CoreWillSoft began with a user-centric design process. We created a clickable prototype and performed a usability test on a group of potential customers and sales representatives of the company. Their qualitative feedback allowed the company to come up with an elegant app concept for Android.
Faster onboarding
To simplify onboarding, CoreWillSoft developed interactive tutorials and visualized the standard workflows within the ENiQ App interface. These educational elements made it easy for new users to get started, reducing training time and simplifying daily use of the app.
Digital sales model alignment
Working closely with DOM, CoreWillSoft also aligned the app’s functionality with the company’s existing sales model. This included support for third-party RFID transponders, mobile keys, and the ability to unlock paid features for managing larger facilities. This approach gave DOM a scalable offering and made it possible to track sales and analyze usage data in real time.
Data-on-Card implementation
To make an administration more efficient, CoreWillSoft facilitated the process of electronic access management using Data-on-Card technology or so-called intelligent transponder. Now, the ENiQ app manages all DOM ENiQ smart locks, supporting the full security features of the ENiQ protocol and all available access management modes. It works with two main approaches:
- Data-on-Device: Locks store access and authorization logic. For each new authorization, a respective lock should be updated
- Data-on-Card: The card contains authorization logic. The lock can evaluate it by a predefined algorithm. To update an authorization, you will need to update only a card, no lock interaction is required
CoreWillSoft combined both access modes to ensure the locks could be managed and unlocked at various distances, using different interaction methods depending on whether the user is near the lock or working remotely.
Let’s create the next breakthrough in physical security!
Technological innovations
Based on DOM’s requirements for usability, security, and compatibility with the ENiQ ecosystem, CoreWillSoft introduced the following technical solutions:
NFC HCE (Host Card Emulation) bidirectional communication channel between the electronic lock and an Android smartphone.
Bluetooth LE communication channel between the lock and a
smartphone.
RFID card management of NXP MIFARE® DESFire® and MIFARE® Classic® cards with Android smartphone.
Secure storage concept for managing sensitive data on a smartphone, aligned with VdS technical and security specifications.
Separation of business and communication logic according to Open Systems Interconnection model in order to adopt it for different radio protocols such as NFC and Bluetooth LE.
The result
In the 7 years following launch, the ENiQ mobile app:
- Reached 5000+ facility installations across 20 European countries
- Achieved a 4.8 stars rating in Google Play
- Accelerated DOM’s hardware sales growth across key markets
- Built a scalable software sales framework that supported the development of new digital business models and set the stage for future solution-focused case studies
